Elizabeth Chien-Hale is a long-time San Jose resident.  She is running for San Jose City Council District 3 to help provide better opportunities for San Jose residents and families.

She is currently the President of the San Jose Downtown Residents Association, and by profession she is an award-winning international intellectual property attorney.

Elizabeth is also a Board Member and General Counsel of the San Jose Okayama Sister Cities Association.  In addition, she is an adjunct professor at the Lincoln School of Law, and a volunteer attorney at the Asian Law Alliance.

A creative thinker who looks for shared interests and common sense solutions, Chien-Hale’s priorities include addressing homelessness, improving public safety, finding solutions to San Jose’s housing shortage crises, safeguarding our environment, traffic congestion, and ensuring our future generation have the resources they need to compete in a global and changing economy.

While as president of the San Jose Downtown Residents Association, Chien-Hale worked to engage and build community among San Jose’s downtown residents to ensure their voices were effectively represented. As a member of the City's Appeals Hearing Board, Chien-Hale also has worked to code enforcement staff to review cases regarding San Jose’s blight, unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.

Chien-Hale has her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Arts in Computational Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence from UC Berkeley, and Juris Doctorate from The University of Hawaii. She resides in San Jose District 3 with her husband Roger.
